Support for individuals who are challenged by homelessness and poverty in Vancouver received a financial boost through the sponsors and friends of the Downtown Eastside organization, Mission Possible.
Mission Possible’s Fifth Annual Gala was held on Thursday, November 14th at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver. Along with presenting sponsor, the Devries Family Foundation, over 400 people attended and $210,000 was raised during the evening.
Vancouver radio hosts Nat and Drew from Virgin Radio 95.3FM performed the emcee duties for the evening (Thank you Nat and Drew). They were joined by Kevin Tink, Senior Vice President of Western Canada Sales for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers for the live auction (Thank you Kevin and you Ritchie Bros. crew)

During the evening Mission Possible staff and sponsors spoke about the impact the organization is having by providing work and volunteer opportunities for people challenged by homelessness and poverty in Vancouver. Presenting sponsor Ted DeVries from the newly formed DeVries Family Foundation helped kick the evening off with a short speech about his family’s long term involvement with Mission Possible. Ted was followed by Mission Possible staff members Lindsay Vander Hoek, Matt Smedley, Jordan Berrner and Mission Possible Executive Director/CEO, Brian Postlewait.
Annual Gala award recipients included: Peter Catarino, General Manager from Delta Vancouver Suites received the Community Champion Award for his company’s outstanding corporate contribution to Mission Possible, the Papworth family from Tsawwassen Alliance Church received the Liz Wall Heart of a Servant Award for their dedication and volunteer efforts at Mission Possible, and Cecily Killam received the Mission Possible Comeback Award for overcoming the challenges she faced after leaving home at the age of 13.
